IoT, IoE, M2M...Alphabet Soup or Are We Creating a Smarter Planet?
M2M-01
Some of the messaging about M2M seems to be suggesting that the Internet of Things gives us all access to a smarter planet, while other companies explanations sound like we have everything on Intranets taking advantage of connectivity, but isolated in accessibility. When we use these terms, are there advantages and disadvantages? Do these various terms suggest architectures or is the differentiation moot?

The Economics of the Industrial Internet
M2M-02
When you combine Metcalfe’s law with Moore’s law, does the exponential growth of devices equate to cost savings, or are the savings hard to define at the micro level but intuitively obvious at the macro level? Is there practical data that shows the economics of the Industrial Internet?

Connectivity's Place in the IoT and the Industrial Internet - The Great Debate (Part 1)
M2M-03
For many of the vendors, the issue of the network is an afterthought. Satellite, cellular, WiFi as long as it connects. Meanwhile, the service providers focus on the connection as the most important part of the discussion that will ultimately drive hardware selection. The debate presents questions on decision making in this connected era. Who should drive the decisions about devices and connectivity? Should the customer’s choice of prime contractor be the deciding factor? What is the right mix?

Beyond traditional M2M to the Internet of Things: Aggregating Disparate Data Protocols on the Internet of Things
M2M-05
Rather than eliminating our existing M2M data networks and connected devices, the Industrial Internet will add a new device category layer that will coexist with older technologies for quite some time, providing them with dramatic new capabilities and increasing their value. To do this, the Industrial Internet will need to accommodate traditional M2M technologies, some of which are decades old. It will have to aggregate, convert and transmit multiple data networking protocols, from Modbus to TCP/IP. It will need to move data across fiber, copper, cellular and wireless connections. While adding millions of smaller, smarter, more capable nodes to networks, the Industrial Internet will also have to keep our existing equipment connected and communicating. How do you plan for future and support the existing things?

The Economic Impact for Businesses of a Connected Society
M2M-06
As the traditional M2M industry begins to evolve beyond simple machine connectivity, it is very clear that we are in the nascent stage of much greater M2M possibilities: business and life transformation. Today, most M2M applications are silos and are focused on optimizing a very specific aspect of an existing business. While a great first step, the real tipping point for M2M lies in areas such as crossindustry and crossvertical business interaction, which can yield innovative revenue opportunities and gamechanging ways of life. This session will focus on moving beyond connected machines to connected marketplaces, and how service enablement is fundamental to this shift. Hear how service enablement can move beyond simply connecting devices and systems, to transforming machine data into valuable information for applications and other valueadding services. Hear how device data and information are collected, stored, transformed and analyzed, services are created and executed and APIs are exposed to thirdparty developers enabling new innovative applications and services, which can be monetized and delivered to customers. Learn how businesses will get access to new revenue streams by providing their assets to other industries and jointly innovating new business propositions.

M2M and the IoT - Just Another Enterprise Application?
M2M-08
We talk in terms of billions of devices that can be connected to the Internet and while the Internet supports that scale, the reality is that the devices being used to support enterprise solutions are only in the millions. Hear what it will take for all the devices to be addressable like a game in the app store and what the experience of developing enterprise systems does for connecting all those devices to the systems with business intelligence.

Integrating Real-Time Machine Data into Your Business Processes
M2M-09
The proliferation of smartphones has created a new path for innovation and growth in M2M.Smartphones today already have several builtin powerful sensors like GPS, proximity, accelerometers, barometers and light sensors whose potential is unutilized. The sensors within a smartphone have the potential to provide an array of new features and functionality, from detecting earthquakes, sensing panic situations while driving, location tracking and much more. Hear how the sensing capability of a smartphone will help enterprises capitalize on the opportunity to create innovative M2M applications quickly, and take them to end users. This panel discusses what resources are available and how to determine the best methods for managing data gathering.

The Importance of Looking at Your Business Process in Deploying M2M - Data Relevancy
M2M-10
Big data analytics is one technology that is fastevolving and will play a major role in consumerization of the M2M space. In the world of connected devices, a flood of data is generated every minute from different sources and various sensors. Enterprises are required to embrace valuebased approaches in the M2M business landscape to increase customer loyalty and profitability. M2M and big data will complement each other as enterprises are inundated with data streams, and tremendous amount of value can be unlocked from these mounting data sources. Hear how businesses can stay ahead of the competition by making datadriven decisions, rather than making decisions on judgment or insight. This session looks at how to see resources and processes in the mix of the analysis and finding the best path to ensuring the relevance of big data.

The Gap between OT (Operational Technology) and IT (Information Technology)
M2M-11
In the enterprise, M2M changes the information flow. Operation information requirements are becoming more complex. The strategies associated with delivering business intelligence to distributed field operations requires security to be planned for a nomadic workforce. The panel discusses the issues associated with OT and IT.

The Role of the Integrator: Making Data Useful
M2M-12
With the race to 50 billion devices quickly gaining speed, companies face the dynamic challenge of international expansion, technology diversity, and managing multiple application layers. We find that more and more partners are looking for the benefits of M2M technologies without all of the complications. Never before has there been such a need for M2M solution integrators. In this session, we’ll discuss what that landscape looks like today and the shape it will take in the coming years as the Internet of Things continues its rapid growth. Understanding the role of the integrator is a key ingredient for success in the implementation of M2M.

Monitoring Fixed Assets
M2M-13
Some things are not supposed to change location, but that does not mean they don’t need constant monitoring. Managing fixed assets is often associated with the production, safety and security in an enterprise. Our panel discusses the role of remote monitoring and management when the machines aren’t mobile but the information is fluid.

Tracking, Tracing and Monitoring Mobile Assets
M2M-14
When it comes to monitoring mobile assets, the requirements go beyond mobility and include all the products that are transportable either willingly or not. Being able to track and trace information expands the information to include everything from climate, efficiency, safety and security. This panel takes us to the next level of information gathering about what is in motion, what risks are involved and where improvements can be made in delivering services.

At the Edge: Devices at Work
M2M-15
Traditionally, the phone network had a strong distinction between the customer’s equipment and the network. These days, ownership, management and placement of devices rarely include distinctions such as “carrier grade.” As we focus on gathering information, the aggregation of data can come from anywhere. What represents the edge of information then if big data brings in other resources? Where does the information come from and how can it impact the work flow?

Sensors & Skunk Works
M2M-17
Can sensors take us beyond the five senses? Do all projects start off with upper management buy in, or do some things have to be demonstrated before their value can be understood? This panel looks at how innovation can be delivered using tools such as simple sensors and computing boards such as Arduinos and Raspberry Pi. Most importantly, we are looking to reveal how easy it is to get in the mix and get some handson experience.
