Aisle411 Acquires WiLocate's Indoor Location Positioning Technology Assets to Expand its In-Store Navigation Portfolio

Mobile technology has changed the way we shop at the stores and retailers are on the lookout for solutions that would increase the customer engagement. Responding to the retailers’ demands for in-store navigation solutions that enhance the customers’ in-store shopping experience, the mobile retail navigation service provider aisle411 has incorporated indoor positioning technology into its in-store search and navigation solutions.

The recent acquisition of WiLocate, an indoor geo-location firm, has enabled the company to introduce this technology enhancement. In addition of acquiring WiLocate’s positioning technology assets, aisle411 also put its claim on several patent pending technologies, as part of the acquisition deal.

aisle411’s comprehensive in-store search and navigation solution supports iOS and Android devices and covers more than 9,000 US locations. With an aim to take its service to the next level, the company sought to provide the largest coverage and best experience to mobile users by combining indoor positioning with indoor map and search technology.

Leveraging WiLocate's positioning technology, aisle411 can now deliver accurate user location data to mobile devices, including Android and iOS devices, on top of its established indoor map and search solution. The enhancement is expected to provide users with a previously unseen level of in-store engagement.

WiLocate's positioning solution leverages a building's existing Wi-Fi infrastructure and sensor information from mobile devices, such as data provided by the gyroscope and compass, to deliver precise location information indoors without the need for any specialized hardware or additional infrastructure.

Earlier this month, aisle4111 announced the appointment of Kris Kolodziej as vice president of location services.
