Boston-based strategic research and consulting services provider ATLANTIC-ACM has just released its latest study that focuses on numerous telecom services and products including machine to machine (M2M), FTTx and VoIP, the telecom industry's top three growth products. The 18th edition of the telecom industry's principal sizing and share analysis is titled, “ Data-Driven Developments: U.S. Telecom Wired and Wireless Sizing and Share 2012-2017.”
In a statement, Senior Analyst Douglas J. Barnett said, "According to our new sizing and share study, M2M, business FTTx, and business VoIP round out the top-three forecast growth products over the next five years." He added, "We expect that strong growth in next-generation business services will help to offset declines from the large embedded base of legacy voice and internet services."
During this time period, findings show that M2M business will grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 28.2 percent with near-term revenue growth to be driven by e-readers and consumer-centric offerings, and long-term growth to be driven by connectivity implemented in business centric devices. Also, the study shows that carrier revenue from M2M services in near term will be driven by sales of data network access.
Likewise, for optical fiber business FTTx, it forecasts a CAGR of 23.6 percent from 2012 to 2017. This revenue will grow as small business customers look for even higher speed connectivity. Further, business VoIP services are expected to see a 17.7 percent CAGR rate over the next five years. Business VoIP revenues will grow as a result of movement from circuit-switched technology to IP-enabled business solutions, including hosted solutions and SIP Trunking. The study indicates that greater competition in this space will drive pressure on pricing, particularly driven by cable providers moving up market and becoming more aggressive.
This 300+ page qualitative and quantitative guide provides detailed segmentation of revenues for 31 major industry products across 33 of the largest telecommunication carriers.
