Increasingly intelligent device manufacturers are finding interesting opportunities to drive more value out of machine-to-machine (M2M) initiatives. M2M technologies, which allow networked machines to exchange information and perform actions without the manual assistance of humans, are taking the world by storm and some analysts are predicting the technology will become the biggest driver and growth opportunity for wireless providers over the next 10 years.
The M2M Evolution Conference and Expo brings together experts in transportation, security, health, cold chain, automotive and safety to discuss the strategies for M2M growth, as well as the new business of proactive response centers – people who use M2M technology to buy time and avoid risk. The goal of M2M Evolution is to create a conference that brings together M2M technology with the business needs of the deploying enterprise.
M2M Evolution held the inaugural Battle of the Platforms, an opportunity to hear and see cutting edge platform solutions from more than 10 companies poised to help companies manage and deliver M2M solutions, at the Austin Convention Center. M2M Evolution is held in collocation with ITEXPO, the world’s largest communications and technology event featuring keynote speakers, conference sessions, exhibitions and more.
The overall winner was Digi, a provider of wireless products, a cloud computing platform tailored for devices and development services to help customers get to market fast with wireless devices and applications. Also recognized were SenseAware, powered by FedEx and Eurotech, for Platform for Enterprise Deployment, OnAsset Intelligence for Platform for Best Business Intelligence Controls Solution, KORE for Platform for Service Providers and RFM for Enabling Independent Application Developer.

All companies showed the breadth and depth of M2M platform solutions and, although each solution addressed a unique business application or technology, all of these solutions show how platforms enable companies to exploit M2M to solve real business issues, improve efficiency and drive revenue,” said Carl Ford , CEO, Crossfire Media, in a statement. “Platform contestants highlighted solutions that address real business needs with quick, scalable implementations that exploit off the shelf capabilities that succeed in reducing costs, improving efficiency and driving profitability."
The event highlighted innovative platform solutions capable of implementing a wide variety of M2M solutions and gave attendees an opportunity to evaluate and differentiate how platforms serve a wide variety of horizontal and vertical applications. All platform contestants highlighted solutions that address real business needs with quick, scalable implementations that exploit off the shelf capabilities that succeed in reducing costs, improving efficiency and driving profitability.
The winners presented all kinds of M2M implementations, including solutions that connect embedded systems to cloud services, how M2M can be utilized to save a life, a vending machine, using M2M to improve a company’s business intelligence, implementing crisis management and devising disaster recovery plans and how original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and design engineers can connect with more devices, equipment and processes than ever before.
Hearing about these very diverse applications, attendees gained an understanding of how almost any enterprise can benefit from M2M implementations these days.
