We're big fans of ThingWorx, a key Machine to Machine (M2M) app development player that recently emerged from stealth mode and quickly established a critical M2M beachhead. We're also fans of companies that choose to work closely with ThingWorx, so it is worth noting in our opinion that Libelium, a company focused on the design and manufacturing of wireless sensor network hardware, has had their Meshlium Sensor Networking Gateway device certified as ThingWorx-Ready.
The certification means that the Libelium Waspmote Plug & Sense! sensor platform is now fully compatible with the ThingWorx platform, which we consider the M2M industry’s first true application development platform. ThingWorx is designed to reduce and simplify the effort required to build M2M solutions and sensor applications for the rapidly emerging connected M2M world.
The ThingWorx-Ready Program allows both hardware and software companies to pre-integrate their products with ThingWorx's rapid application development platform. These companies provide a wide variety of products throughout the M2M value chain. They range from software systems and cloud platforms to smart sensors, devices, gateways and machines. Being "plug-and-play" reduces the cost and risk of wireless sensor and "Internet of Things" deployments for customers, and helps to accelerate the growth of the overall space.
Libelium’s certification as ThingWorx-Ready means that the company has created a pre-integrated solution. The pre-integration will not only improve time to market for Libelium, but will also reduce overall solution costs for its customers - a particularly important issue. The ThingWorx-Ready certification exposes Libelium’s hardware technology to ThingWorx's growing ecosystem of OEMs, application providers, system integrators, and resellers. Libelium gains the opportunity for its products to possibly become a preferred choice for that ecosystem and their collective customer applications.
Based in Spain, Libelium was founded in 2006, and designs and manufactures hardware for the implementation of wireless sensor networks so that system integrators, engineering and consulting companies can quickly deliver reliable Smart Cities solutions. Libelium’s products are modular, easy to deploy and include extensive documentation and support through an established global community of developers -which range from startups to large international corporations implementing Smart Cities projects in North America, Asia and Europe.
Alicia Asín Pérez, CEO of Libelium says that, “The number of connected devices is projected to grow from one billion to 50 billion over the next 10 years, and the number of connected solutions must expand at a similarly rapid rate. Our aim is to reduce our customers’ time to market while remaining as a horizontal hardware provider for the Internet of Things. We achieve both of these advantages with the integration into the ThingWorx platform.”
Rapid development and deployment is at the heart of the ThingsWorx platform. In the M2M world we believe that ThingWorx is exactly what the doctor ordered, so to speak, to meet the M2M industry's rapid expansion.
