If you know the machine-to-machine space, you know that any M2M solution is only as good as the network that hosts it. So, the recent news that Kontron’s M2M Smart Services Developer Kit has been certified by Vodafone bodes well for the M2M company.
The kit passes a series of 2G/3G tests that took place at Vodafone’s Test & Innovation Center and now it is approved to operate on the company’s cellular network. This means that OEMs will now be able to use the Kontron platform to connect distributed systems to various embedded cloud applications using Vodafone’s large network.
"Alongside the PTCRB certification, which our M2M Smart Services Developer Kits already have, the Vodafone certification is a decisive factor for our global OEM customers as it enables quick and cost-efficient market introduction of their cloud-based remote supervision & management appliances,” said Kevin Rhoads, vice president, Embedded Products Business Unit at Kontron, in a statement. "Customers are thus in a position to deploy our M2M Smart Services Developer Kit globally. We continue to offer wider deployment options for our customers with cellular connectivity on various Tier 1 carriers worldwide.”
Kontron’s M2M Smart Devices Developer Kit has many dynamic features. It offers scalable processor performance by way of computer-on-modules as well as an extension for audio/video smart services over M2M. It supports both WLAN and WPAN, allowing for rapid deployment of applications. It can access cloud applications via 3G WWAN connectivity and can be extended to 4G as well. The kit is available now.
