The Winner of the Battle of the Platforms at M2M Evolution Is...

The Battle of the Platforms at the M2M Evolution event was as exciting as promised. Nine innovative companies from the M2M space put their best feet forward to show off their platforms, technologies and solutions. But there could only be one overall winner, and this year, that winner, as decided by the three judges (Mike Sapien, principal analyst at Ovum; Carl Ford, cofounder of Crossfire Media; and James Brehm, senior strategist with Compass Intelligence) was Omnilink.

Omnilink’s single platform works for multiple solutions, providing end-to-end track and monitor capabilities for people or things that matter. The company realized that RF ankle bracelets used to monitor offenders were huge and complex – and woefully inadequate. So it worked to develop a single device that could provide waterproof, network-based location capabilities.

The courts required a robust solution with an infrastructure reliable to five nines. This infrastructure served the company well, as it was able to leverage the platform into other verticals. Omnilink provides solutions for tracking pets, children, seniors, those suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and asset tracking as well.

This was not the only award that was handed out at the end of the event. The other award winners are as follows:

  • Platform for Enterprise Deployment: ILS Technology

   • Horizontal Platform: Digi International

   • Platform for Service Providers: WebNMS

   • Platform for Enabling Third Party Developers: Thingworx

   • Platform for Business Intelligence:  Spireon and Axeda

   • Best Overall Platform: Omnilink

"The battle of the platforms showed the depth and scope of solutions from automotive finance solutions by Spireon to Web mashups from Thingworx," said Carl Ford, cofounder of Crossfire Media and judge at the event. "Everybody showed us what a tremendous impact on the ROI of their customers they were having with many showing return on investments in the first year.  Every participating company deserves your attention."
