Global Connectivity with the Alliance for Simplified M2M Global Deployments

The collaboration of multinational telecommunication companies will make it possible to use a single SIM card in countries where those firms do business. The Alliance made up of seven leading mobile operators around the world – KPN, NTT DOCOMO, Rogers Communications, SingTel, Telefonica, Telstra, VimpelCom – has added Etisalat, the Middle East's largest operator and the GCC's third-largest corporation to its membership.

Along with this membership, the Alliance demonstrated the technical possibility of being able to use a single worldwide SIM card through a Web-based platform.

One of the goals of the Alliance is to capitalize on the exploding M2M global market. As the largest coalition of mobile operators in the world, they want to implement a system that will simplify the process of worldwide deployments of connected devices for multinational companies.

These worldwide organizations face a nightmare of logistics issues, not the least of which are fragmented network landscapes, limited local coverage and connected devices with multiple platforms. By building the technical capability of the infrastructure where members of the alliance reside, it is possible to have a worldwide standard for full M2M implementation without compatibility issues.

This will simplify the multi-network M2M solution for multinational companies across many different fields on a worldwide scale.

Jasper Wireless’ Control Center is the preferred M2M platform, for enterprises chosen by the alliance as part of this solution. As part of the subscription management platform, it’ll be connected by Giesecke & Devrient for secure subscription swap functionality.

Choosing the same control center and subscription model will ensure that compatibility is not a problem when M2M programs are deployed.

The Alliance members conducted live demonstrations during Mobile World Congress 2013, using connected tablets to simulate a real customer experience by showing the SIM management capability and Over-the-Air (OTA) subscription updates.

The Giesecke & Devrient Smart functionality, and secure wireless subscription management platform SmartTrust AirOn, was used.

The rapid growth of M2M requires a standard platform that devices across different platforms, systems, companies and nations will be able to use without having to worry about compatibility. The formation of the Alliance is a step in the right direction and an incredible business opportunity for its members.
